Flynn Johnson is back beside the green electricity box in Whitestown, Dublin 15, on his new single “DANCIN’ IN THE DARK”. Released today through Golden Éire Records, the hikii-produced track is the second single from THE GREEN BOX THEORY: FRIDAY EDITION, an expanded edition of his 2025 debut album, due on 6 November.
The song draws on nights spent drinking cheap cans with friends around a fire, with music playing through a portable speaker connected to an old Sony Ericsson phone. By the early hours, most of the group would have headed home, leaving a handful behind to talk about their futures, relationships and the lives they imagined for themselves.
Flynn found his way back to those memories through an instrumental from longtime collaborator hikii, whose previous work with him includes “ÁINE” and “MULA”. Built around boom-bap drums and a pitched vocal sample, the production reminded Flynn of the rave music he and his mates listened to growing up, particularly tracks associated with DJ Cammy.
There is affection for those nights throughout “DANCIN’ IN THE DARK”, alongside the drinking, family tensions and questionable decisions that came with being young. The song returns to the friendships that made those experiences memorable, even as the lads began to recognise that life was changing around them.

The release follows September’s “MURDER PT II”, which brought Rebel Phoenix, Mango and whoisdays together for a reworking of a track from THE GREEN BOX THEORY. Both singles feature on the forthcoming FRIDAY EDITION, which returns to the people and places at the centre of Flynn’s debut.
The original album, released on 7 November 2025, followed Flynn’s experiences growing up in Whitestown during the mid-to-late 2000s. Its opening scene includes a conversation with his best friend Darrell, who Flynn asks, “Are you going to that yoke on Friday?” The gathering is mentioned in passing, but the album never reaches it.
THE GREEN BOX THEORY: FRIDAY EDITION picks up that thread, returning to the Friday-night gathering beside the green box. Almost a year on from the original release, Flynn is bringing this chapter of his story to a close, with the expanded record serving as a final thank-you to the estate and the people who shaped his early years.
